Sleigh Bells – Comeback Kid

For what can be rationally described as the soundtrack to a riot, there is something to be said about a band that pushes your headphones way passed the limit of what is considered “safe.” Pitchfork went so far as to describe their first album as one that “makes you re-think loud.” Their general willingness to toss caution and convention to the wind – and the fact that they are the antithesis of Vampire Weekend – made Sleigh Bells an instant favorite on my iPod. Some call it noise rock because they are afraid of it. My answer: crank up the volume loud and embrace the new single “Comeback Kid” from their forthcoming sophomore album, Reign of Terror, due out February 21st. The shock value is somewhat diminished from their first album, but still, “Comeback Kid” shows the band is moving loudness forward with a cleaner overall feel and new electronic elements.
